Temple Of Ishtar
Ritualistic mutilation, ancient symbol of castration
A Syrian priesthood neophyte stands in the temple of Ishtar.
The hunter gored, Adonis’ life is resurrected by his wife
His lover Ishtar, Aphrodite, Isis, Venus, shining star.
Through sands of time the temple closed, Adonis hanging ever posed,
Fixed nailed to a crossed upright, side gored and bled by the bitter spar.
Forgotten now by kith and ken, why cleave away the sacred skin?
For His rebirth at Easter time, in the temple of Ishtar.
